Library instruction centers.
Description. Located in room 423 of the
LeRoy V. Good Library and room 4-069 of the Damon City Campus (DCC)
Library, the Library Instruction Centers serve as modern teaching facilities
for course-related library instruction and workshops.
With 18 computers at LeRoy V. Good Library and 11 computers at
the DCC Library, the Centers allow for hands-on instruction in library
research methods and other components of information literacy.
Policy. Please keep in mind that:
- The Library Instruction Centers are designed
to support library instruction only.
- Professors are required to attend library
instruction sessions with their students. Library instruction is most
useful and best received by students when it has the benefit of professor/librarian
collaboration.
- With the exception of general library orientations,
professors should have already assigned a research assignment prior
to a library instruction session.
- Library instruction sessions should be scheduled
at minimum two weeks in advance.
Procedure. Librarians can adapt their
instruction to fit the needs of a particular assignment and/or student
group. To schedule a session at either library instruction center, contact
the following individuals:
- For LeRoy V. Good Instruction Sessions
(Brighton):
Reference/Instruction Librarian, Alice Harrington
(x2304 or aharrington@monroecc.edu)
or schedule a session online.
- For DCC Instruction Sessions (Damon):
DCC Librarian, Mary Timmons (x1412 or
dcclibrary@monroecc.edu)or schedule a session online.
Please provide contact information, the particulars
of your assignment, day and time of instruction, name of the class and
the number of students involved. Thank you for your cooperation.
ACCESS cards.
Many local college and business libraries are
available for MCC faculty and administrative personnel to use. The Rochester
Regional Library Council has coordinated efforts to facilitate access
to regional libraries. A library ACCESS CARD is available to faculty
wishing to use college and research libraries in person when working
on special projects when the resources of the MCC libraries have been
exhausted. Individuals requiring specific titles or those engaged in
short-term projects should utilize Interlibrary Loan.
ACCESS cards are NOT available to MCC students.
Application forms, rules governing use of the
cards and a list of participating libraries is available at the Information
Desk. To obtain more information about the Access Card Program, or to
request a card, call Ann Penwarden, 292-2322.
