Grammar and Writing Links

  • Guide to Grammar and Writing - Highlights of this site from Capital Community College include: information on parts of a sentence, how to develop a paragraph, and the process of writing an essay and research paper.

  • MCC Writing Center - The MCC Writing Center is located on the Brighton Campus in Bldg. 11 Rm. 208. Writing Center staff are available to assist you with questions you may have about grammar usage, the writing process, and citing styles.

Online Citation Style Guides

  • The MCC Guide to Writing Research Papers  - A publication developed by the MCC Libraries and English department Faculty to serve as a guide to the information research process. Contents include: how to cite print and electronic resources using examples from the American Psychological Association (APA), Modern Language Association (MLA), and Council of Science Editors (CSE) style manuals.

  • APAStyle.org Electronic References - This website from the American Psychological Association (APA) provides guidelines for citing electronic and online sources as detailed in the print edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association,
    5th edition, published in 2001.

  • APA Formatting and Style Guide - This guide from the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) provides formatting help and specific citing examples for APA Style. Also refer to the OWL APA Style Workshop.

  • Chicago Manual of Style Citation Guide - From the Ohio State University Libraries this guide provides examples of the "Author-Date" and "Notes-Bibliography" citation styles based on the The Chicago Manual of Style 15th ed. rev. (University of Chicago Press, 2003).

  • Frequently Asked Questions About MLA Style - This website from the Modern Language Association (MLA) provides a list of revisions to the 6th edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers published in 2003, and includes questions and answers about punctuation, and citing web sources.

  • MLA Formatting and Style Guide - This guide from the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) provides citing and formatting help for MLA Style.

  • Turabian Citation Guide - From the Ohio State University Libraries this guide is based on Turabian's A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations 6th ed. 1996 and provides examples for books, articles, and online resources.

Citation Builders

  • Citation Machine - Part of the "Landmarks for Schools" website for teachers, the Citation Machine is an interactive web tool designed to assist students with creating works cited citations in Modern Language Style (MLA) and American Psychological Association Style (APA) format.

  • Citation Builder - Created by the North Carolina State University (NCSU) Libraries, the Citation Builder will help you create citations for journal articles, books, and websites in Modern Language Style (MLA), American Psychological Association Style (APA) format.

  • KnightCite - From the Heckman Library of Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Knightcite helps you build citations in APA, MLA and Chicago style format for books, anthologies, periodicals (magazine, journal and newspaper articles), multimedia and communication (radio or TV programs and personal interviews).

The following citing style manuals are available at the LeRoy V. Good Library (Brighton Campus Library) and Damon City Campus Library.
Call numbers beginning with "Ref" and "City Ref" indicate that the book is part of the Reference collection and therefore cannot be checked out.  Books that can be checked out are labeled below as belonging to the "circulating" collection.  Ask a Librarian if you need help locating any of these style manuals.
